Enkamat®
Enkamat
flatback
Like their
open equivalents, Enkamat flatback has a flexible three-dimensional structure of
monofilaments fused together where they cross. The difference lies in the flat
back produced from monofilaments in an irregular, two-dimensional structure,
integrally bonded to the three-dimensional structure.
Enkamat's artificial root system provides the foundations for natural erosion
protection. Enkamat flatback can have up to 2,700 m filaments per m2
of mat, depending on the product type. Using this artificial root system makes
it possible to safeguard many bank side areas which could otherwise not be
planted.
Within flood area, and below the waterline, Enkamat flatback should always be
filled with stone chippings increasing the level of erosion protection, while
above the flood waterline, topsoil is sufficient. Stone chippings are retained
in the mat by the filament core and the flatback structure and give a protection
for medium velocity streams and rivers or on reservoir banks. When vegetation
has established within the Enkamat flatback, higher velocity flow rates may be
withstood.
To choose the right Enkamat flatback to suit the specific needs of your project,
a design method is available, prepared by an independent body.
Enkamat will not degrade, making these anti-erosion mats the system of choice to
protect slopes against erosion permanently.
Enkamat flatback comes in 1.0 m, 1.95 m, 3.85 m and 5.75 m wide rolls.
