Enkamat®
Product Family
Enkamat is the name of
a product family of permanent erosion protection mats made of monofilaments
fused together where they cross. All Enkamat products are based on a proven
flexible three-dimensional open structure which, when looked at closely, looks
in shape similar to an egg box with 95% of the volume of the mat available for
soil filling. These features ensure positive integration and immediate
stabilization of soil slope surfaces, while providing an enhanced environment
for seed germination.
When this monofilament structure was developed over 30 years ago, it not only
laid the foundations for today's range of erosion protection mats: it was also
the start of Colbond's pioneering work in the field of geosynthetics.
The Enkamat product family comes in a wide range of different shapes, developed
and adapted for specific applications in recent years.
Working with "plants as construction materials", all products from the Enkamat
family provide effective integrated permanent erosion protection. Enkamat's
artificial root structure provides new vegetation with the stable platform it
needs to survive and develop, even under the most adverse conditions.
Even before vegetation develops, Enkamat offers immediate protection against
erosion. The mat structure reduces the impact of wind and water on the surface,
so preventing soil runoff.
Tailor-made solutions to new applications mean the Enkamat product range is
constantly developing and growing. The Enkamat product family is divided into
groups as follows:
Enkamat
(e.g. Enkamat 7010 or 7020)
- Structure: open structure top and bottom
- Up to 17 mm thick (7020)
- Artificial root structure, up to 1,800 m filament/m2
- Suitable especially for dry slopes
- Prevents wind and rain eroding soil
Enkamat flatback ( e.g. Enkamat 7210 or Enkamat 7220)
- Structure: open structure on top, flat back
- Up to 19 mm thick (7225; Enkamat 7220: 14 mm)
- Artificial root structure, up to 2,700 m filament/m2
- Suitable especially for wet slopes and in flood areas
- Prevents erosion on slopes and banks with medium water velocities
Enkamat A (e.g. Enkamat A20)
- Structure: Enkamat flatback, prefilled with a bitumen bound mineral filter of
chippings
- Approximately 22 mm thick and weighs 20 kg/m2
- Suitable for surfaces permanently subjected to water impact
- Immediate erosion protection from high velocities and small wave attack
Enkamat W (e.g. Enkamat 7010W/5/200.50PET)
- Structure: Open Enkamat grip layer sewn to a reinforcing grid or woven fabric
- Up to 17 mm thick
- Ideal for slopes covered with an impermeable liner
- Stabilizes soil and vegetation cover on slippery liners and steep slopes
