Dry Slopes
Erosion
Control
Protecting surface soil layers against the effects of wind and water and
increasing the shear strength between soil layers is the key to erosion
protection. A proven method to achieve this result is the installation of
structural geomattings. Slopes can be protected from erosion with geomattings
alone or enhanced by the establishment of vegetation.
For this purpose, Colbond developed the versatile erosion prevention mat
Enkamat
more than 30 years ago. Depending on the specific characteristics of the slope
and its environment, the right product can be chosen from a wide range of
different erosion control mats.
For the use of Enkamat on dry slopes, an important factor in the choice of the
right product is whether the erosion prevention mat can be fixed to the ground
by means of pins. If this is the case, the suitable Enkamat product type can be
chosen by determining the required structure (open Enkamat or Enkamat flat-back)
and thickness of the matting.
Where erosion prevention mats cannot be pinned to the ground to make direct
contact with the substrate, Colbond offers special fabric-reinforced product
types of Enkamat to deliver the tensile strength needed. These are anchored in
ditches at the top of the slope.
